Classic Wisdom For The Professional Life

This book can be read in about an hour. It is simply a book of quotes. You might want to buy this book because of its cover and title, but think twice before spending $10-$12 bucks. Nowhere on the cover does it tell you this is a book of quotes. There are no informational paragraphs to read, no inspirational stories, and no meaty substance of which to speak. I really consider this a fluff, filler book. The font size is large, and a maximum four quotes (rare) to a page, make this an easy write with little or no time involved.

When I read a quote, I want context and citation. This book gives neither. It pulls random “sound bytes” from space or Wikipedia and crams them together with no form of taxonomy at all. After a brief survey of all the pages, I concluded most of the people quoted were either publishers, authors, actors, or politicians with a couple inventors, and maybe a banker sprinkled here and there. Each person is quoted numerous times throughout the book which lends to the inclination that the author didn’t spend a lot of time researching. Well over fifty percent of the book is also devoted to Democrats. Ronald Reagan, Colin Powell and a couple Republican Senators are quoted. The radical likes of Jane Fonda and Alice Cooper found their way into this book as as well.

Overall, you can find much more impacting quotations by doing a simple search on the Internet. I would not recommend purchasing this book. It has a lack of flow and weight. However, the slip cover is classy if you want some shelf candy.
